NFL PLAYERS "FORCED TO RETIRE" from Concussions:
Sport Concussions stem from 2 main impact types:
1) Blows to the crown of the helmet.
2) Frontal or lateral blows to the chin cup, jaw or facemask.
The below descriptions do not specify which types of impacts
caused each mentioned concussive event.
- It is believed that 85 percent of
concussions typically go undiagnosed -
| NFL Players Forced to Retired: Steve Young: As mentioned previously Steve is the highest rated quarterback in NFL history. In his career he was NFL MVP in 1992, Player of the Year in 1994, and MVP of Super Bowl XXIX. Steve had 4 concussions in 14 months and his career ended there. AL Toon: All Pro Wide Reciever for the New York Jets in the late 80s and early 90s. Has the second highest reception total in team history. Suffered a total of 13 cuncussions in only a 9 year career. Still complains of dizziness, fatigue and an intermittent inability to concentrate. He struggles to watch his three children ride a merry-go-round without getting dizzy himself. Chris Miller: Quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. Retired in 1995 after suffering 5 concussions in 2 years. He once got lost driving to the football stadium because he forgot how to get there. In 1999 he found himself unable to stay away from the game and attempted a comeback with the Denver Broncos. He started 3 games before getting another concussion. At that point he coach pleaded with him to retire and he did so. Stan Humphries: Starting quarterback for the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX (he lost the game to Steve Young and the 49ers). Retired after having 5 concussions in 25 months. Meril Hoge: Runningback for the Pittsburg Steelers in the early 90s. Suffered 2 concussions in 6 weeks in 1994. For a period of time after the concussions he couldn't remember that he had a wife and child. Troy Aikman: Has had 9 concussions. After his most recent one he took off 2 weeks and said "I feel like enough time has passed and I don't feel like I'm putting myself at risk." However he has been known to suffer from memory lapses. When asked where the Super Bowl was being held one year he replied "Henryetta Oklahoma". That is where he played high school football. Cuts, bruises and even broken bones will heal, but damage to your brain can last a lifetime. Even a low-speed fall can change your life - forever. Brain-Pad mouth guards are tested and proven to REDUCE this Risk of Head Injury. Is your mouth guard tested or proven to reduce concussion risk ? |
